Album Notes
This
generous five-disc set collects 100 mostly original recordings of '60
hits, including songs by Elvis Presley, Sly & the Family Stone, the
Righteous Brothers, and Tom Jones. Given that it spans so many different
kinds of '60s sounds, including girl group pop, folk-rock, British
Invasion hits, and psychedelic pop, the collection doesn't always offer
the smoothest listening experience. Still, the sheer amount of hits here
means that most '60s music fans will find more than a few things
they'll enjoy. Highlights include the Troggs' "Wild Thing," Georgie Fame
& the Blue Flames' "Yeh, Yeh," Thunderclap Newman's "Something in
the Air," and the Spencer Davis Group's "Gimme Some Lovin'." ~ Heather

Bologna, Italy (01/28/1974).This live set by the unjustly
underappreciated alto saxophonist Sonny Criss from Italy in 1974 is a
case in point for his tremendous lyricism, original tone, and
hard-swinging soulfulness. Fronting the Georges Arvanitas Trio, Criss
ushers the company through a series of fine pop and jazz standards,
including Bobby Hebb's "Sunny" Thom Jurek, ALLMUSIC.com
