Shirley Lewis is still the regal queen of blues

By Bill Copeland on March 17, 2011

Shirley Lewis recently turned 74 and her singing career is still going strong. She is still the regal queen of the blues. Raised in a musical family, she has been singing since she was four. She feels that the biggest misconception of her talent is that everyone now only knows her as a blues singer.

“I’m not a blues singer. I’m a singer. I’m a singer that sings blues,” she said. “I believe that music comes from the heart, not from the head. I believe that everything you sing, whether it’s rhythm and blues, blues, jazz, funk, punk, whatever you call it, all that stuff. If it doesn’t come from the heart, it isn’t enjoyable to me.”

Bobby Hebb on tour with Jimmy Page, and four gigs with Page and Jeff Beck  - the Dick Clark Caravan of Stars _________________________________________ FROM A LED ZEPPELIN FORUM http://forums.ledzeppelin.com/index.php?/topic/501-the-1967-dick-clark-caravan-of-stars-tour/ I have an original program from that tour too; it cost me a lot more than 99 cents! The Caravan of Stars Tour was actually late 1966. Jeff Beck flaked out and left the tour after the fourth gig (Oct 30, 1966 in Corpus Christie, TX). The Yardbirds went on to cancel three appearances on this tour, two for illness (Nov 24-25) and the date in Little Rock (Nov 4) for an undetermined reason.
