Rest in Peace Little Joe Cook of The Thrillers, colleague of Bobby Hebb's

Anyone who has visited the Cantab (a club this writer first performed at in 1974) knew the legendary hit artist Little Joe Cook.  We lost Little Joe this week.

Rest in Peace.  A gifted artist, a great human being, a good friend.

Here are a couple of my reviews of Joe's music:

RIP LITTLE JOE COOK

The Top 25 song from 1957, "Peanuts," leads off this majestic 32-song compilation released by Little Joe Cook's own Beantown International in 1997. This generous disc is a very easy listen for fans of rock & roll, rhythm and blues, pop, and American music. The falsetto on "Peanuts" inspired Frankie Valli; in fact, the Four Seasons recorded the tune, although it was credited to another songwriter on their disc (and other covers as well, for a very long time). After a lengthy battle, Cook has set the record straight. A true pioneer, the 14-page booklet that comes with the CD is chock full of photos and information. Alternate takes of "Cherry," "This I Know," "Please Don't Go," and "Peanuts" are here, along with the "Peanuts" sequel, "The Echoes Keep Calling Me," Cook's rendition of "For Sentimental Reasons," and his classic version of "Stay." Although Cook did not enjoy the recognition of a record based on his style, "Stay" has been a staple in his live show for four decades. Everything on this collection has vintage sound, and really on-target performances.  read more here: http://www.allmusic.com/album/a-blast-from-the-past-the-legendary-little-joe-cook-the-thrillers-mw00...

My friend Bobby Hebb loved Jose's rendition.  Bobby visited us in Medford many times, including a memorial show the day after Frank Sinatra died in 1998.

José 'Cheo' Feliciano Dies In A Car Accident

He said it is unclear what led to the crash, adding that officials did not find any drugs or alcohol in the car.
His wife of 56 years, Socorro "Coco" Prieto Leon, told reporters that Feliciano had been at a casino Wednesday night.
"He was the only man in my life," Prieto said as she cried. "I thank everyone for the love they had for him."
Puerto Rico Gov. Alejandro Garcia Padilla declared three days of mourning, saying, "Today, Puerto Rico lost one of its greatest voices."

U.S. Rep. Nydia Velazquez issued a statement calling Feliciano a treasure to Puerto Ricans and to many New Yorkers.
